ognizes exceptional contributions or accom-
plishments in fishing with many other awards
including the annual Tommy Gifford Award.
RULES
What is the difference between fishing and an-
gling? One word: Rules. While fishing can be
considered a leisurely activity, adding a frame-
work of rules promotes fair competition and
elevates the activity to a sport, the sport of an-
gling. When the IGFA was established in 1939,
one of the primary missions was to standardize
angling rules. In the eight decades since, the
IGFA has been the gold standard, promoting
ethical and sporting angling practices and es-
tablishing uniform regulations for the compila-
tion of world game fish records.
