A day marlin fishing is so much more
than just a ride out to sea and troll-
ing around. Climb up to the helm and
you’ll experience life unfolding in pan-
oramic wonder.The horizon stretches
unbroken, the sea shimmering in hues
that shift with the sun’s position. But
while most see the open ocean as
empty, captains know better.The “view
from the helm” is anything but vacant;
it’s teeming with motion, mystery, and
wildlife in a constant dance of survival.
For the longest time I considered my-
self lucky to have a sportfisher to run
and be in the captain’s chair alongside
some of the best in the business. But
as a photographer, I realized the real
blessing are the sights, sounds, smells,
and action unfolding around me.These
views inspired
me to pick-up the camera
and capture what I was seeing.
On a calm day, a simple wake in the
water could be the slow methodical
march of a great white shark on a stroll
or a dominate yellowfin tuna leading
the pack to feeding grounds.When the
water’s visibility is clear, you can see
twenty- to thirty- feet down and
